4 Decor Ideas That Will Transform the Look of Any Room in Your Home

As the holiday season approaches, many people are decorating their homes accordingly.
But once the holidays are over, all of the seasonal decorations and changes get packed up
and put back into storage. Of course, you can decorate your home for each holiday and/or
season, but if you want to give your home a completely different look, there are other
changes that you can make that will last longer than a holiday or a season. Here are four
examples of how you can transform the look of your home that will work for just about any
room in the house.

#1: Change the Color of the Walls/Add an Accent Wall

The most obvious way to change the look of a room in your home is to paint the walls, but
you can get more creative with painting than just simply changing the color. One example is
to create an accent wall, which is typically the wall that draws the most attention in the
room, or a focal point. In your living room, this can be the wall where your fireplace,
television, or a bookshelf sits; the wall where your bed is placed in the bedroom; and the
wall where your vanity lies in the bathroom. An accent wall can be painted another color
that’s different from the other walls in the room, or it can be a different design and texture,
such as board and batten.

#2: Switch to Hardwood Floors/Change Out the Tile

Switching from carpet to hardwood or laminate flooring in the high traffic areas of your
home not only changes the look, but it’s also a good way to keep the air clean in your
home. Dust and other particles can get trapped in the carpet and become very hard to
clean, so this upgrade is ideal if you have allergies, pets, and/or small children. Hardwood is
more expensive to install than carpet, but it lasts much longer and will also increase the
value of your home. Fortunately, you can still get that beautiful hardwood look with
laminate flooring, which is less expensive and more durable than traditional hardwood
flooring. You can also find tiles that resemble hardwood if you want a continuous
hardwood floor look throughout your home.

#3: Upgrade Countertops and Appliances

When it comes to giving your kitchen a new look, you can certainly paint the walls and/or
add some dimension to them and change out the tile, but the most popular kitchen
upgrade comes down to the countertops. Nothing can transform the look of your kitchen
quicker than a drastically different countertop color and style. New countertops will also
give you an idea of what color to paint the walls and what style of kitchen appliances to
purchase. While you’re updating your kitchen countertops, don’t forget about bathroom
countertops and hardware (showerheads, faucets, etc.) upgrades that will give your
bathroom a new look.

#4: Rearrange the Furniture

Upgrading flooring, countertops, appliances, hardware, and even paint colors can be
expensive, but rearranging your furniture costs nothing. It may seem like a simple thing to
do, but a different placement can truly make a room feel like it’s brand new. For example,
many people have the couch in their living room placed up against a wall, but you can have it placed in the center of your living room, anchoring it to floor space only, rather than
anchoring it to the walls. This can also be done with beds and desks, and you can even take
it a step further by mounting your TV on a wall, rather than setting it on a TV stand or
dresser. A mounted TV makes a better watching experience, especially if you enjoy streaming sports or watching movies.

Home decor can get expensive, so keep in mind that you don’t have to transform every room all
at one time. Start off by rearranging your furniture to give the rooms in your home a new look,
since it doesn’t always require you to purchase additional items. You can also focus on one room
at a time and then move on to another room once you’re finished.
